Becoming a Violence Preventer

About 56.6 million students will attend elementary, middle, and high schools across the United States.

To stay safe, it is imperative that students and their parents become familiar with their campus and its surroundings. By knowing your environment you will be able to identify anomalies and suspicious activities quicker.

Remember that the most effective way to manage an emergency is to address it before a situation becomes a crisis. The best way to avoid violence is to prevent it in the first place.

Teaching students what to look for and how to report it is a simple and cost-free security improvement that any school can adopt.

If it is suspicious – report it immediately!

Remember that there is NO specific “Profile” of school shooter or a terrorist Want to add a caption to this image? Click the Settings icon. . We need to examine behavior not profiles. Behavior is the true indicator! Always ask yourself – why is this person behaving this way, in this place, at this time? If something or someone does not ‘feels right’ – do not ignore it! There is no downside to prevention! The benefits of reporting far outweigh concerns about being perceived as “paranoid”.

Everyone can learn to be a Violence Preventer
